About the Environment

Why bother?

Hello, we are a BI consulting company, you may wonder why we have an "Environment" section in our website.
Here at PowerUp we strongly believe that our planet should receive a bit more respect from us humans, and that we still have little time to learn it.
While big changes can be difficult, there are plenty of small things we can do, as single individuals or companies to make a difference.

We decided, in our daily activities, to try reduce as much as possible the energy consuption and to use, whenever possible renewable enrgy.
We avoid traveling when possible, using technology instead, such as video conferencing, remote collaboration tools etc.
Recently we also moved our website to a geen host, it's a hosting company in the USA that powers its data centers using only wind generated energy. They provide a great service for a fair price, like many other hosting companies, but they are committed to reduce the negative human impact on our planet.
Sometimes "going green" does not mean paying more or doing things the hard way, it's just a matter of choice.

As a BI consulting company, our job is to help our customers to make the best decisions, this could be one of them.

Should you be interested in considering the same web-hosting company we are using , you can click on the banner here, or visit their website.
In their website they explain what they actually do :
"Green Geeks pulls from the grid just like every web hosting company. We must pull energy from the grid in order to make sure that we have a constant power flow for our servers and to make sure the servers would not be interrupted by a lack of power. Unfortunately much of the power that flows through our grid today was produced by polluting technologies like fossil fuels.
In order to compensate for the polluting power we pull from the grid we purchase wind energy credits for the energy we consume from the grid. In fact we replace, with wind power, 3 times the amount of energy used by our servers, so if we pull 1X of power from the grid we purchase enough wind energy credits to put back into the grid 3X of power having been produced by wind."

Some interesting data is available on the web about trends in energy consuption, environmental changes etc.
We are in the process of collecting some of this data and planning to make it available in this website, you can have a preview (it's a "sneak peeck" on our dev environment) here. Data is sourced from the World Bank website.
